Hi Reader,
This week, we are excited to share an encore of episode 229 with Dr. Sarah Hayek, who shares profound insights from her husband's bariatric surgery journey.
The emotional and mental hurdles faced when considering bariatric surgery are great and Dr. Hayek has had a front row seat to those barriers, guiding her husband through the pre and post-op process.
She saw firsthand how powerful curiosity and community are, how pivotal they are in overcoming personal barriers, as well as the importance of understanding the "why" behind medical advice and decisions.
Dr. Hayek's candid reflections offer a fresh perspective on the journey to better health. No matter where are are in your own bariatric journey, this episode will leave you feeling hopeful about what lies ahead.

👟 Texas TREO Walk
Next week, April Williams and Melanie Lindell will be traveling to Texas to walk in the TREO Foundation Arlington Fall Walk with our friends Dr. Joe, Dr. Chen, and Marty, and they would love to walk with you!
If you live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, register for the Walk and move with us as we stomp out the stigma of obesity.
➡️ Click HERE to learn more and register.
We will be hanging out at the BariNation table before handing out stickers and meeting people then joining everyone on the walk. And knowing us, perhaps keeping the fun going at a casual lunch after.
🚨 Obesity Researcher Needs Your Help
We were recently introduced to Adam Clark, LCSW, who is working on his Doctorate in Clinical Social Work at the University of Pennsylvania.
➡️ He is studying how life factors like relationships, food access, quality of life, and self-image relate to individual mental health (anxiety and depression) after surgery.
If you've had bariatric surgery or revisional surgery in the last 6-12 months, you could really help make a difference in understanding mental health outcomes after bariatric surgery by taking his survey, which will take about 15-20 minutes to complete.

If you have a bariatric friend who is 6-12 months post op, please pass this link on to them as well.
